Ethiopian food! Tried it?

I am watching Top Chef 7 Episode 8, and they were talking about Ethiopian food in DC.

It is indeed one of exotic food in the world. Usually famous in movies because its 'toxic' hot spice :)  I don't know, never tried it before. I am now thinking of trying out after watching this episode. Prior to this, I have no intention at all to try Ethiopian food.

Interesting enough for me because, the first time in my life encountered with Ethiopian food was in Washington DC, to be exact, in Georgetown. Which was where they having their shoot (the Top Chef 7).

These are below some restaurants photos I found in google, those (me and yvi, and our fellow Georgetown student), we passed during an afternoon walk towards Georgetown University....

We were walking along the street in Georgetown (that what happened when you have European buddies - they love to walk!) so we were walking from DC to Georgetown, to Georgetown university to be exact.
We passed this restaurant, actually several restaurants and I saw the names: Ethiopian food. I was so shocked. I stopped and starred.

My friend were asking me why. Then I explained, I grew up with knowledge that people did not eat in Ethiopia because lack of food and very low economy. So every time We didn't finish eating our food, my mom would tell us that we would get like Ethiopian kids if we didn't finish our food. That was scary when I was kid. The hungry kids, with very thin body that you could see the bones structures, thin face, bloated stomach.

So now, how on earth, the restaurants looked very nice, and people seemed to have good time inside, enjoying the food, while all my life growing up I thought there was NO FOOD in Ethiopia!!!
